What’s Your Goal?

Do you have a goal?

Goals in Basketball, Streetball and Freestyle

If you don’t have goal in basketball, streetball tricks, or freestyle you’re cutting your chances of any type of success in half.  In fact, this doesn’t just apply to basketball – that’s exactly the way it works in all of life.  How can you expect to get somewhere if you don’t even know where you’re going?  That’s like driving a car with a blindfold on.

If you take basketball, streetball or freestyle seriously, then you need to start by determining your long-term goals.

A few years ago one of my long-term goals was to become one of the most versatile freestylers in the world.  At that time I’d barely dabbled in 2 ball freestyling, hadn’t even tried 3 ball freestyling, and could barely spin a ball on my finger.  Within a year I could do a variety of tricks with 2 and 3 balls and cartwheels while spinning a ball on my finger.  I’m not telling this story to advertise my skills, but rather to show that if you have a clear picture of what you want to do and work hard and smart towards that goal, you will get there.

So how do you make a huge goal achievable?  Maybe you want to make it to the NBA, maybe you just want to become the world’s best freestyler, or maybe you want to get the respect of both friends and strangers with your amazing ball handling ability.  Once you’ve determined your big goal, break it into smaller short-term goals.  You could start with working on your ball handling speed, or your spinning tricks, or learning how to dribble the ball between the defenders legs.  From there you can move to another smaller goal, then another, and another, and next thing you know that big, crazy, long-term goal will seem achievable.

Perhaps you’ll need a little guidance along the way when you run into difficulties or aren’t sure where to start with skills.  That’s why I created this website, so I can help you when you run into troubles and maybe even help you define your goal and take those first steps towards it.

Every great painting starts with one little brush stroke, what will your portrait look like?
